Animab raises € 10 million to bring its edible antibody technology to market for pathogen control in livestock
Animab, a biotech start-up developing a new class of orally administered antibodies for animal health, is pleased to announce the successful close of its Series A round. The procedure will be used to commercialize its lead product and expand the pipeline of antibody products in animal health. The investment round was led by the venture capital fund Qbic III with the participation of existing investors (Seventure Partners, VIB, PMV, AIF and V-Bio Ventures).
Animab builds on a proprietary and scalable platform technology, enabling efficient and cost-competitive generation of monoclonal antibodies for the prevention of intestinal infections in livestock. The orally administered antibodies are designed to improve the health, wellbeing and performance of animals by controlling specific disease-causing pathogens.
Momenteel is het Animab-hoofdproduct een monoklonaal antilichaam dat specifiek is ontworpen tegen enterotoxigene Escherichia coli (ETEC), de belangrijkste oorzaak van diarree na het spenen bij biggen wereldwijd. Het bedrijf heeft in vivo aangetoond dat het product diarree en gerelateerde klinische symptomen bij ETEC geïnfecteerde biggen voorkomt en zal het product nu verder ontwikkelen voor wettelijke goedkeuring. Dit product zal ook bijdragen aan een duurzamere veehouderij en het antibioticagebruik bij dieren aanzienlijk verminderen.
